With the Final Stretch of League approaching, The Ranger Boys Basketball team have an undefeated record in League Play. The boys have battled to beat tough teams like Porterville, and El Diamante.

Boys Basketball has proved time and time again why they are in the best team in the EYL (East Yosemite League). Moving into the second half of League Play, Isaac Esquivel, ’25, Cristian Carlos, ’25, and Coach Jacob Huerta give their thoughts on how league play has been going so far.

Esquivel says that he “feels pretty good” about league starting, “We have come together at the right time and now it is starting to pay off as a team.”

The team had a shaky start to the season, meaning that they have made a lot of adjustments from the start of the season to now. Esquivel says, “Taking care of the ball and not being useless with it,” being more productive on the offensive side and playing together as a team.”

Cristian Carlos has big plans for league play, he says, “We are winning out and I think we are gonna make a good run in playoffs this year”. Carlos goes on by saying, “We have had better shot selection for sure, taking care of the ball as well, and building team chemistry.”

The Rangers have faced a lot of challenges this season, Carlos says, “We lost 2 of our players and we went on a 5-game losing streak, but then we bounced back and went on an 8-game winning streak.”

Coach Jacob Huerta also weighs in on the adjustments that have been made. He says, “We scored 70 against Porterville, you can see the brotherhood, which affects the team because they all start playing for each other and not themselves.”

The Rangers have a Home Game against Monache on Friday, February 2nd. When it comes to league, Coach Huerta says, “Making sure that our guys stay humble, and good practices, making sure that they are ready for the challenge that awaits, because people know, that we are the team to beat.”
