Black History Month is a month dedicated to all of the African American icons who have overcome great obstacles along with making a big difference in America. The student activities class on campus taught by Mrs. Aston, also known as the culture and climate class, decided to go one step further and draw more attention to black history.

The class decided to split up into certain groups in order to get more information out there. Some kids worked on making some posters featuring a person who stood out to them. Monica Aviles, ’21 made a poster featuring Martin Luther King Jr. because she liked how, “he was an activist and his idea of peaceful protesting movements.”

Another student featured their poster on Kobe Bryant and so on. There are lots of African American historical figures that were not featured in the posters that were however brought up in the presentations that other students made which covered many more people.

This class is new to Redwoods campus. The class focuses on something new each month and each month the main focus is something that correlates with that particular month. For example, October was Anti-Bullying Month and the class wrote kind and inspiring phrases around the school with chalk.

The class has high hopes for the rest of the year and next month the class will do more inspiring and informative projects.
