Leadership roles are important in sports, but being a captain means that a player showcases leadership not only on the field but also when no one is watching.
Kwyn Bruce, ’26, has been playing soccer for thirteen years and plays midfield.
Bruce has been on varsity since her sophomore year and is captain of both her club team and is one of Redwood’s senior captains.
Bruce is also committed to playing soccer in college.
Being a captain isn’t a small deal, Bruce says, “It’s a big responsibility, but it’s also like fun.”
Coming into her last soccer season for Redwood since Bruce is a senior, she says, “It’s good to know that I’m going to be one of the oldest on the team out there and a leader out there.”
“I’m really sad about letting it all go,” Bruce says, “It’s gonna be sad, getting to know all the girls and then just having to leave.”
Alongside Bruce is Ruby Beal, ’26, who is also a captain for the Redwood girls soccer team and a club team.
Beal has been playing soccer for ten years and has been on varsity soccer since her sophomore year.

Beal says, “I’m super excited. I feel like I’m finally super comfortable with the team.”
“We had a great season last year, so I’m just really excited to lead this year for another great season,” says Beal.
It being Beal’s senior year she says “I’m sad that it’s over, but I’m super excited for it to start.”
“We had a great season last year, and that was the biggest thing that was super good,” says Beal.
Beal also plans to continue playing soccer at her future college, and if it is not a four year she plans to play at a community college.
Beal says, “I’m just really excited to be able to lead this year and be playing a lot.”
