The before and aftermath of Formal. Formal was held this past Saturday, December 8th, at the El Diamante Gym from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Formal is a dance that students attend, either in a group of friends, or with their dates.
Most students start getting ready for formal hours before the event, so that they have enough time to do all the things they want to do, such as, take pictures and have dinner. Agapito Garza, ‘19, says “I start getting ready around 12-12:30 p.m, so we can start taking pictures around 1:00 p.m., chill for a little bit, eat dinner around 5:00 p.m. hang out then wait for the dance to start.” Many students have different experiences at dances like Formal, some just dance the night away, like Agapito. Getting ready earlier is a lot easier, because you don’t really have to rush anything.
Currisa Jenkins, ‘21, says, “The process of getting ready for Formal is tough, I had to get ready a couple weeks prior, get my dress because I ordered it online, and get my nails and hair done the day of Formal. Then go take pictures and go to dinner.” Any dance, like Formal, can be tough because sometimes plans don’t always go as planned, and you’ll need a back-up plan just in case.
Here’s what freshman, Presley Acosta, ’22, had to say about Formal: “My experience at formal was pretty good, really fun hanging out with all of my friends and stuff.” Formal is a great way to spend some quality time with friends out of school, it’s a night for people to dance the night away. “We went with dates in a group” says Acosta. Daniel Atkinson, ’22, says “Well I had a wrestling tournament that day so, I got home and I was kind of rushed. It took a while, but I had everything set out, so it’s like a two day process.”
Wendy Rodriguez, ’19, says “So the time I got ready was at 12:00 p.m, I went to my friend’s house and we got our hair and makeup done.” Many girls like Wendy go over to friend’s houses to get their makeup done because it’s a lot more stress-free than having to go to a store to get it done. “My experience at Formal as a senior was I really liked it, I didn’t like the music at the start because they had the band playing, but then the DJ came in and I really liked it,” states Rodriguez.
