Love Week has been a long-standing tradition at Redwood, and was initiated by none other than Redwood teacher, Mr. Nicholas Miller.
Love Week was started, “to show everyone they’re loved on this campus, [that] it’s not about just couples, but for your love for the school,” says ASB President Brielle Alvarez, ‘22.
There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes for the prep of Love Week. Crucial and extensive planning is undergone to get everything prepared for the week ahead. From the dress-up days to the activities to the hearts around campus with students’ names.
In preparation for Love Week, “First, [ASB focuses] on ways [they] can show love to [their] campus and the students who attend Redwood, and then [they] start the planning process. [They] create committees and then each committee is responsible for creating and executing tasks/activities to make everyone feel included,” says Mrs. Aston, ASB Director.
This year, ASB got a head start on their prep and started with the hearts that include every student’s name on campus as well as their posters that are being put up around campus.
However, “On February 14 [ASB] is having a workday from 9-1 to get everything set up,” says Maria Hernandez, ’22, ASB member.
Along with making our campus full of love, there are new activities coming up, “I’m excited for the new activity of finding the ‘Cupid’ around campus and getting a free treat,” says Alvarez.
Alongside finding “Cupid,” there will also be lunchtime activities such as a lunchtime picnic on Friday, the 18, and a trash can decorating competition.
As a class, ASB chose the design of the shirt through creating different designs and voted, they decided on the color, design, and background. Per tradition, Love Week shirts will be available for purchase during lunch for $10.
Love Week is a great opportunity to bring students together.
“Especially underclassmen, it gives them a chance to know and understand what Love Week is all about. Activities come to life with student involvement,” explains Alvarez.
