The class of 2022 had a great start at Redwood this year. Many of these freshman got involved with extracurricular activities, such as sports, ag mechanics, band, and yearbook.
Elise Hyde ‘22, made varsity soccer her first year at Redwood. “My first soccer season on varsity was amazing. I had more opportunities to play with older girls and his helped me improve a lot more and change the way I play the game.” Her favorite moment from this soccer season was when one of her teammates scored the winning goal against Golden West in the last few seconds of the second overtime in order to advance into WYL. She played soccer in middle school and said that they are totally different because the athletic level of the students is very high at Redwood. “This is a very good thing because it helps you improve, become a better athlete, and learn from others.” She said that it’s incredible to make varsity as a freshman because it reminds her that all the hard work is paying off, and also that she can achieve great things if she puts her mind into it. She felt that it was really cool to see how far she had come from the beginning of the season to the end. “It shows a lot of how I improved playing my game when I learned from my amazing teammates and coaches.”
Jasmine Luna ‘22, was the only freshman to be in yearbook this year. “My first year of the yearbook class was really fun. Knowing I was the only freshman in the class was really special to me because it gave me the opportunity to make some awesome new friends with the upperclassmen in the class.” She says that the class itself is amazing because she also learned quite a lot about photography and public relations. She decided to do yearbook this year because of her love for photography and also because her sister had been encouraging her to take the class. “I was also very interested in the class because it looked really fun and I wanted to be a part of something big that everyone looks forward to at the end of the year.” She hopes to continue in this class for the next 3 years of my high-school career. Her favorite part about yearbook was all the friendships that had grown from it all. She was very honored to be part of the redwood log 2019 yearbook.
Presley Acosta ‘22, was apart of AG mechanics her freshman year, “I decided to do AG because of all the opportunities it can create in the future and the awesome experiences I would get. Also, in the work field, usually lines of work relating to AG are almost recession proof which is another reason why I wanted to do it.” She said that her favorite part of ag was being exposed to new things and new people. She exclaimed that she really enjoyed being able to participate in FFA this year and is super excited for these next few years. “These next few years I am looking forward to more speaking competitions, raising lambs, gaining more valuable life skills, and meeting new people!”
Bethany Wells ‘22, was in band this year as well as middle school. She said that it was way different than middle school because in middle school, band plays only a few songs per semester and only marches in parades. However in high school there are so many songs and they have the opportunity to do a field show. She feels that the marching and terminology is much more complex as well. “I love music so much! It seems that the negative things in life go away when I express myself through music. It is also just so much fun.” Her favorite memory was when they got to travel to Fresno State for a wind band festival. They earned superiors and got to go out to eat after.
All four of these freshmen got involved at Redwood and really enjoyed it which made their first year here a lot of fun and full of excitement. They can’t wait for next year and to see what is to come.
