Students are excited and ready for the Fall play, A Christmas Story. After some time, Redwood’s theater department can finally put on a live performance that Redwood audiences will remember. The auditions have recently wrapped up, with many students giving it their all for the play.
Students arrived at auditions on Tuesday and Wednesday, ready to perform. Students turned in their packets, got their number, and then performed their audition. Camryn Deisman, a student actor of the class ’22, is excited about the play, as she feels it will be a fun time. “I’m looking forward to having fun and meeting new people in the play,” she states.
A lot of students share the same feelings, as this is the first play in a long while that they can perform live, and make a better connection with other students. Nathaniel Crabtree, of class of ’23, says that he’s ready for the play, “…I love A Christmas Story. I always watch it, like, every year. It’s a household movie, and I’m excited to act it out.” The excitement around the auditions was clear when students acted, and their talent spoke for itself.
Students blazed through the auditions with little trouble. Noah Estrada, of class of ’22, showed off his incredible skills, doing a fantastic job in auditions. “Auditions went well. Everyone brought their highest potential,” Estrada says.
Students were still very excited, even after the auditions finished. The student actors encouraged each other, laughed, and had a fun time, before, during, and after auditions.
Mrs. Galvan, director of Redwood’s musicals and plays, feels like the group of students that came to the auditions were exceptional. “They were amazing. I wasn’t sure what to expect, again, we haven’t done this in two years… I had very low expectations, so everyone was through the roof and amazing,” Galvan says.
It’s a breath of fresh air for her as well, as in-person acting is back, rather than Zoom auditioning online. “It feels a little overwhelming! I haven’t done this in a couple of years… but it’s amazing seeing everyone’s faces and getting to have people in the room,” Galvan explains.
The Fall play plans to air sometime in November or December, official dates will be announced by Mrs. Galvan when determined.
