Do you ever notice the cowhide posters mysteriously popping up around school? Or how the football field is completely spotless after a big cowhide game? Well, you can thank your ASB members for keeping the campus spontaneously clean and for providing the school’s decoration. But what does it take?

ASB advisor Pete Siquedos is in charge of managing all of his ASB kids; he teaches them about responsibility and respect and is sure every member will respect our campus and set good examples for Redwood students.

Mr.Siquedos, 08′ “We are a leadership class; it is our decorations, and we put them up, so it is our responsibility to clean it up…admin supervises the ASB kids while ASB members and their friends all participate in picking up the field.”

Valeria Rojas, 27′ “We clean it because it’s our responsibility and to lead the campus and show the younger generation good etiquette…It is really time-consuming, whether it’s the clean-up process or creating the posters.”

Rojas 27′ an ASB member, is making an effort to set good examples for future ASB members and Redwood kids. The campus is a place where we are at all the time, and it deserves to be neat.

Nicholas Diaz, 28′ “We are the leaders, so we need to set a good example. We also set up the bowl so it’s helpful to the custodians when we clean up…The clean-up process is long, but it can be fast when everyone is helping.”

Nicholas talks about how custodians are a major part of our campus; they can’t keep up with thousands of students all the time, though, so cleaning up the bowl gives them a break and motivates the students to do good and keep our campus clean.

Addison Shultz, 29′ “We create memories, and we are in charge of cleaning the posters and everything up to be respectful to our janitors and campus…Our friends help clean up, which is honestly really helpful, and it speeds everything up way more.” Addison’s motivates janitors as well, but the memories ASB creates are crucial for keeping our students engaged and motivated, and when all of the students come down after the game and clean, that shows how connected Redwood truly is.

Overall, ASB is set up with a lot of tasks such as poster designing and setups, and the after-process of taking everything down and cleaning. The work is long and sometimes hard for them, but they know they can’t leave the campus bland for this week’s biggest football game.

I'm Josiah Velez, I like writing about student life because it opens me up to more people. Anything related to school events or things going on, I'll often walk around campus looking for random people to talk about rather than looking for a few set of people.
