For week three, the freshmen and the Junior Varsity (JV) football teams hosted the Tulare Union Tribe as both teams try to get their second win of the season.
On Thursday, September 5th, the freshmen team played their game against Tulare Union Tribe in hopes of getting their second win and over the .500 win percentage. Just like against Centennial in week one, they dominated the entire game with a huge win at home with a final score of 38-8.
Andy Garcia, ‘28, shared about the win against Tulare Union at home and said, “It was a pretty good game. Our defense and offense played good all four quarters. There’s still stuff to improve on.”
On Friday, September 6th, the JV team played against the Tribe also trying to get their second win of the season. The JV put up a close game at home and fought all the way through, but they weren’t able to pull off the win with a final score of 14-6 in favor of the Tribe.
Kyle Adney, ‘26, spoke about his overall thoughts on last week’s game and said, “The game was not the prettiest, we just have to work out our kinks.”
Last week, both the freshmen and JV teams went back on the road as they went to Tulare Western to face the Mustangs.
Adney said the JV goal for the week is, “Our offense and defense needs to work hard and beat them [Tulare Western]. This is a lot better team than [Tulare] Union.”
On Thursday, September 12th, the freshmen team headed back to Tulare for another road game, this time to face the Tulare Western Mustangs. It ended up being a close game, but in the end, the freshmen lost 16-12.
Garcia shared his postgame thoughts against Tulare Western and said, “The game didn’t go our way. Our defense could’ve worked better and just kept holding them on for a bit longer. We could’ve prevented that score but we keep making mistakes that are fixable.”
On Friday the 13th, The JV team played against the Mustangs and pulled off a great win on the road, dominating the entire game with a final score of 21-0.
This week, on the 19th and 20th, both the freshmen and JV teams will go back on the road to face the Hanford Bullpups. They hope to get one more win before the bye week and then get ready for the East Yosemite League (EYL) matchups starting against the Porterville Panthers on October 3rd and 4th.
Garcia mentioned his goal for next week against Hanford: “Keep the score up. Keep them out of the end zone and do good.”
