Throughout the many years Christmas has been celebrated, many songs and music has come with it. It is always a joy to listen to popular Christmas music while baking cookies or decorating your tree. As the years go on millions of songs have circulated and become very well known. But have you ever realized how much Christmas music has changed throughout the years?
The very first Christmas song ever released, wrote, and performed was Johnny Gondesen’s “Christmas Is Here.” Obviously a lot has changed from Gondesen’s 1965 original song. As change in music rolled around, Christmas music began to come in many different genres. John Davis, ’23, states, “Christmas music has changed a lot. I feel like more popular artists write Christmas songs now because they know they will get a lot of listeners. The songs I have heard are from Justin Bieber, Snoop Dog , and even Tyler the Creator.”
Now that everyone’s opinion in music is changing, many artists are trying to keep up with the change. Olivia Saenz, ’23 states, “I think I have heard the song “Jingle Bell Rock” in every single genre of music.” Country, rap, hip-hop, and even R&B.” The change in music is interesting and will only continue throughout the years.
Artist have to put out good content for all of their fans. When Christmas rolls around, artist take advantage of their opportunity and create songs that match with their fans holiday spirit. It’s original and even more interesting to hear your favorite singer sing “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree.” As new artist and new songs roll around, even more songs will be written and performed.
