Last Saturday February 8th, 102 students represented the FBLA club at the Central Section Leadership Conference here at Redwood High School. Mr. Avila, the advisor, wants the students to know that, “I am proud of all their hard work and how they performed.” And to top things off this team brought home the Sweepstakes title for coming in 1st for the 33rd time in school history!

Abbie Linhares ’20, the FBLA president described the weekend as fun, memorable, but also bittersweet because it was her last section conference. She also said that, “there is nothing that I would change in our chapter. Every member shows dedication and excitement to be apart of our organization every day.” One goal Linhares has for the rest of the school year is to make sure that every member feels confident in their event.

Other information regarding the results from the past weekends competition is that 19 students placed in the top 10 twice! that’s right, twice! Along with that, 52 students qualified for state this coming April and the competition will be held in Ontario, CA.

For Linhares being a part of FBLA has helped her grow in leadership and self confidence. She says that having to stand up in front of 500+ people she was terrified but now it’s like breathing to her. She is no longer afraid to step out of her comfort zone.

For those of you that don’t know, “this club has a lot of different events ranging from things like objective tests to speaking events to computer production and so much more! There is pretty much an event for everyone in FBLA” says Linhares. Other than competitions, FBLA does a lot of community service, leadership conferences and socials.
