Love week arrived and Rangers show what love really means to them in their friendships.
Love has been spread throughout the Redwood halls for years. “Love week” is a special couple of days that help define just what that love is.
For many, the thought of “Love Week” makes their mind immediately go to romantic love. The love that runs through friendships created by Rangers goes deeper.
Ambrose Bueno ‘23 and Jacob Shin ‘23 are one of those bonds that haven’t let loose. The two met in kindergarten and have been friends ever since.
Many friendships have grown their love with common interests that brought them closer. Sophia Diaz ‘26 met her best friend, Journey Vela ‘26, through their love of volleyball at the beginning of the school year.
Shin says, “Ambrose and I have grown closer because of sports and our friend groups are still the same and we also have a lot of the same hobbies.”
Love grows where one least expects it and in many different ways, Maelani Herrera ‘24 and Mya Hayer ‘24 became best friends after being sat together in their math class sophomore year.
Herrera says, “Even though [Mya and I] don’t show a lot of affection, we know that at the end of the day that we still love each other.” The two were the least expected and as love grew for one another the friendship built up with it.
Friendship not only is built off of love but built off of ways one shows that very love. Emmah Abney ‘25 and Ava Mendez ‘25 are just another example of love that flows within friends, being there for one another and being supportive runs strong when representing their love.
Abney says, “I show love by being present and real in my friendships. I feel love is important because it is a feeling to give and to have like no other.”
Going through these friendships the real question is what love means to them. Bueno says,“ I love all my homies. I feel that I and my friends have a spiritual connection. The love and bonds we have together keep us together and we just all fit together.”
Hayer says, “Love means respect and always caring for one another but being able to mess around with each other.”
The love between two people, especially best friends is different than anything romantic, and being able to be yourself around each other is just one of the biggest factors.
Mendez says, “Emmah makes me happy. She knows when I’m sad/mad and she always puts me in a good mood. We have helped one another through so many things and always have one another’s back.”
“With relationships, you never know when it could be over. With friendships, it’s like you’re always there for each other and your friendship will never end,” says Vela.
