VISALIA, CA— On Tuesday, March 14, 2023, Visalia Unified School District [VUSD] canceled all school activities after 6:00 PM.

The district issued a statement Monday afternoon after the city declared a state of emergency.

The statement informed VUSD families that school operations would continue as normal the next day, Tuesday.

VUSD included that they would continue to monitor the weather throughout the day.

Tuesday afternoon, the district released another statement saying that all school activities after 6:00 PM, including that evening’s board meeting, were canceled.

The statement reads:

The weather statement on the VUSD website

“Dear Visalia Community,

We are in frequent communication with city officials and are aware that the city is being proactive and making plans for potential flooding throughout the city.

Regular school operations will continue for Tuesday.

Given the increasing concern of storm runoff, VUSD is proactively canceling school activities this evening after 6pm. Our regular school board meeting is also canceled.

We will continue to assess any impact on schools and adjust Wednesday’s school operations as necessary and update you as new information becomes available.”

The statement also informs residents how to receive updates from the city:

“For city information, please visit their website. To receive the latest emergency updates for the City of Visalia, sign up for text alerts by texting “VISALIA” to (844) 713-7830.”
