The ongoing pandemic has had a severe impact on the classroom environment, and with camera equipment not at much of a disposal, video class has had to adapt to this new video environment in quite a few ways.
Despite what many may assume, it’s been much more challenging to find a way around the situation according to students. One of them being Isaac Duran, ‘24, an Intro to Video student, who said, “A big way it has affected my class is just not being able to talk to the teacher directly.” He continued, “It would be nice to actually hear people talking.”
However, communication hasn’t been the only issue affecting the class. Lucas Washam, ‘22, is an Advanced Filmmaking student, who said, “Well the biggest shift after the pandemic was not having as much access to technology and equipment. Instead of a DSLR camera I’ve found a way to shoot and edit some videos just on my iPhone and Mac.”
Lucas, however, also took the opportunity to give some words of gratitude for the class. “While it takes more coordination and improvising,” he explained, “it has also encouraged me to think more creatively about how I assemble my videos.”
The situation hasn’t seemed to have negatively affected interest in the class, according to Isaac. He said, “It hasn’t affected my interest in the class, since we’ve been able to come up with solutions to some of the issues.”
Video class has definitely had to make due with the little amount of resources provided, amidst the pandemic. Thankfully, students in need will be able to get equipment, according to Lucas. He said, “While it’s not ideal, Henshaw has said recently he will be able to give out some equipment to students who need it.”
