Redwood Girls Varsity Volleyball team took their talent and an amazing group of girls to a 2-day tournament in the Redwood gym. The team went 4-0 at their home tournament, taking the dub against Yosemite in their last game.

The girls took the win during the first set; the score was 26-24. They were hyped and full of excitement to see what the next set would look like for them. The girls went into the second set ready to compete for their win.

As the second set started, the girls started the set off strong with a good mentality and a humble mindset. They felt many emotions since they did lose to Yosemite the first time they played them.

Luckily, the girls took the win in the second set; the score was 25-16. The girls felt thrilled.

Libero and defensive specialist Alyssa Hutchison, ‘27, had the most outstanding passes and digs. She showed a remarkable performance in both positions that she plays.

Their loss to Yosemite during preseason hit the girls hard, then after winning against Yosemite in the tournament, Hutchison said, “It felt really good to come back and beat them, especially since we hadn’t the first game.”

Hutchison said, “The second time, we wanted to win even more since we did lose that first one, and we knew we had it, and we watched them to study how they play to make sure we did get that win.”

Since Redwoods Varsity Volleyball Coach Bryaunea is new to all players, Hutchison said, “The new coach is amazing.”

Coach Bryaunea shows how much she cares for her players and always wants what’s best for them.

Coach Bryaunea said, “Something I look for in players is work ethic, positive mindset, and how you handle it when you make mistakes.”

As Coach Bryaunea gets comfortable with the Redwood program, she said, “I’m enjoying it. We have a great group of kids, and they’re very athletic and talented. We’re definitely on the younger side, so I look forward to the growth to come as the seasons go on.”

As a new coach with a different coaching style, the coach said, “Traditional and orthodox, I bond well with my team, which is not expected with a lot of coaches especially cause age, but its traditional and we go through drills, we have a practice plan, everything. But on the backhand side of things, that’s the orthodox of everything; that’s how I bond with my athletes.”

After the tournament, the girls celebrated as a team, cheered, ate food, and overall, enjoyed their big win.
