In preparation for their weekend- long tournament, the varsity girls basketball team played their first season game against Exeter Union High School.

Kierstan Moshier ‘22 says, “Going into the game I was pretty nervous because I wanted to do well both individually and as a team, but I was also excited to be able to play for the first time in a while.” Since the pandemic, it has been a serious challenge for these girls to start playing basketball games once again, and because of this the nerves were higher.

Even for a regular season game, it was important to start the season strong for the varsity girls to get in the right mindset.

Senika Murillo ‘22 says, “The halftime talk was something we definitely all needed. It gave us motivation to go out there and give it all we have.” The halftime talk changed the mentality of these girls from being full of nerves to remembering that they are on this team for a reason.

Moshier also says, “I think that game was a strong start to our season, both individually and as a team.” This mentality will help the team going forward, especially with the game being a win of 59-24.

Murillo says, “Playing our first game together really showed us how each girl plays and how well we are capable of working with each other, and I’m excited to see what we can do again on the court.”
