Redwood men’s baseball played Bakersfield High School, and they overcame the odds and won the game, 10-2. Joey Rico, ’22, says, “I feel like we did very good for our first game. It showed us what we need to work on going forward.” Rico follows up by saying, “I needed to do whatever I can to put the team in the best position to win.”

Ty Potts, ’23, “My goal for the season is to work to get better everyday, and the stats will take care of themselves.” Potts goes on to say, “That said, next game I think we should be more aggressive in our approach on offense and not let the pitcher dictate our at bats.” Rico adds on to this by saying, “We can always improve our aggressiveness while hitting and our approach in different situations.” While Rico and Potts agree there can always be improvements, they have a lot to say about the team as a whole.

Potts says, “The team is extremely close. Most of us have been teammates since we were eight to ten years old, so we know how to work with each other very well.” Rico says, “I am always looking forward to playing with the team and continuing to build great relationships with my teammates.” Potts and Rico agree that their team played well this game, and Potts adds, “We have been practicing with most of our team for the last six weeks, and we want to add onto what our coaches recognize what we did well on next year and need to improve on.”

Rico and Potts have made it clear that Redwood Baseball is determined to having a strong season, and winning 10-2 on their first game was an excellent start.
