On Tuesday, February 26th, Redwood travelled to Sunnyside for another DI level game which resulted in a win for Redwood, 10-3.
After a long long long time of the players itchin’ to get on the field, they finally began play. It started out with Kaden Sorenson striking out looking for the Rangers. The game started out rough where it seemed like Sunnyside would dominate after an error by Redwood resulting in Sunnyside leading 1-0.
It all started when Redwood scored their first two runs to take the lead early on, thanks to a double into center. Aguirre scores, Ashford scores, 2-1 Rangers. Then, Alvarado hit a triple into right, Garcia scores, 3-1 Rangers. After that, Alvarado scores off a wild pitch, 4-1 Redwood. Hunter Bryan hits a double into center, Chamberlin scored. Then, the scoring effort would happen one more time, when Sam Bower doubles on a fly ball to center, Bryan scores, 6-1 Redwood! The inning ended on a checked swing, but the bat and the ball made contact. The Sunnyside pitcher was able to make the play, and threw it to first to end the inning, but thankfully, the damage had already been done.
The Rangers would score 4 more times and Coach Ball switched up the lineup to allow almost the entire team to play. It was especially interesting to watch Woody, who had come into the game to relieve for Bower, get his first AB of the season. Here was the count. 0-1 count, Wood grounds out to the mound, pitcher throws to first, he’s done, “I guess that’s why they don’t let me hit.” Woody did pretty good on the mound as he struck out 2 but he also allowed two runs. Bower, the starter, allowed 0 runs, and struck out 7. Garza also had a night to remember, as he allowed 0 runs, and struck out 6.
It was a fantastic game, and overall the Rangers put up an absolute clinic as they owned Sunnyside, final score, 10-3.
