Andres Izael Enriquez (Izzy)’24 is a 16 year old who has started his very own barber service now reaching over 100 clients after 7 months in service.

Inspirations on a start in cosmetology first sparked while watching his uncles and cousins cut hair.

Enriquez receives an abundance of support on his journey from all of his friends and family members. Izzy says -regarding in ways he receives support, “From putting my stuff out there, getting their hair cut..”

Enirquez services all his appointments in his house garage. His setup consists of the typical seats, lights, drinks along with quality clippers, trimmers and shavers like: The Wahl 5 Star Senior Clipper, a Babyliss Fx3 Trimmer, Babyliss Gold Fx Trimmer boosted and Babyliss Fx Pro shaver etc.

In the beginning of his cosmetologist journey, Enriquez was not making much profit, as the money he made would be reinvested back into the business. Enriquez says, “When I first started I wasn’t making anything, but you gotta [re]invest. Two months into it I started seeing progress.”

After having cut hair for 7 months, Enriquez has a client count reaching over 100. Many of those people being from Redwood High. Enriquez says, “In a day I cut up to 5 people just because I have to keep up with homework. $20 per person; $100 a day, but weekends I cut all day.”

Areas in which Enriquez exceeds include: Creating connections, Networking and allowing clients to feel comfortable. This is how the majority of Enriquezs referrals come from. Enriquez most values, “The connections you can make and the relationships with the people,” while being a barber.

Some obstacles Enriquez faces could be with the season. Whether it’s too cold or too hot can affect the comfort of his clients as he services inside his garage. Enriquez combats these seasonal issues with the simple addition of a heating or cooling system.

Victor Luna ’23, a client who’s yet only received his service once says he was, “satisfied with his service. I like the music he was playing, it was fast and he also sold drinks.”

[English translation ~ “He’s a good barber, he treats everyone with respect. When he has time he lets you know at what hour he can or if he can’t he tells you like 4 days before.” Penaloza follows, “Yes, I’m very satisfied with his service. I like it a lot, the designs he gives me, they’re really good and with him being young.”]

Izzy advertises his services through social media platforms such as Instagram (handle: andresblendss) and Snapchat (handle: enriquezz.99)

The ultimate goal Enriquez has for his business is to one day open his own Barber Shop and rent it out to other upcoming barbers.
