2019 has been and is going to be a massive year for entertainment! From the beginning of this year to the end of this year, 2019 will be getting an unprecedented amount of goodness.

Back in January 2019, Glass (the third film in a supposed connected universe of realistic superhero movies) by M. Night Shyamalan came out to mixed and also negative reviews, The Upside, a comedy/drama starring Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston, got some negative reviews from critics even though the movie came out originally 2 years ago and A Dog’s Way Home was surprisingly given good reviews. In February, Alita: Battle Angel was given mixed reviews, but did make a good amount of money, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part came out to some success and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World did well too. Then in March, Us, Captain Marvel, Dumbo and Five Feet Apart were all released to somewhat decent success; Us received mixed reviews and some were disappointed for being mislead, Captain Marvel got a massive amount of mixed to almost negative reviews on how the main actress Brie Larson was being smug, rude and inconsiderate and Dumbo was a fan favorite for the children as Disney continues to take the path towards live action original remakes.

Arianna Vargas, ‘19, said this about Captain Marvel, “I enjoyed the movie. It wasn’t like the other movies where as they had more fight and harsh storyline. Captain Marvel, Carol, she had a story in which consisted of steady yet still jumbled life. Her memories were wiped and life was a lie. The movie would be recommended by me to others since it’s its own unique put together thing. It doesn’t really fill in too much for the movies after such as Endgame. But it did give an idea of where her powers came from which was from the Tesseract, which was in all actuality one of the Infinity Stones. Overall I liked the movie and how they portrayed her character and personality in the movie. It suit her whole issue with the Kree and human race. I just hope her story doesn’t end there.”

Caleb Feliz, ‘22, said, “I believed Glass was a significant way to conclude the two previous works of M. Night that culminated to a compelling climax.”

On April 26th, 2019, Avengers: Endgame came out as a big success and Rotten Tomatoes has given the film a whopping 97% as of April 23th, 2019. The Game of Thrones newest season is getting massive hype from fans and viewers as major changes came to the show. The new Twilight Zone TV show is being rated pretty well on Rotten Tomatoes as well as being watched by either longtime fans or causal viewers.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be coming out on May 31st and monster fans will be very pleased after viewing the final trailer. Detective Pikachu has came out to nothing, but fame and success. A new film called Ugly Dolls has recently came out and it is a weird little movie with not-so good scores from movie critics. Savanna Franks, ‘20, said about Ugly Dolls, “Well it’s similar to Trolls, but it has more comedy.”

The current Rotten Tomatoes score for Detective Pikachu is 64%, but the movie has made over $63 million! The new DC Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix will be coming out later this year in October. The Lion King will be coming out as well possibly this summer. Recently, a new trailer dropped starring Will Smith fighting against… Will Smith? Gemini Man stars Will Smith, Benedict Wong, Clive Owen and Mary Elizabeth Winstead in this new action-packed blockbuster, coming out in October, directed by Ang Lee who also directed Hulk, Brokeback Mountain and Life of Pi. Sony Pictures has released a new official trailer of Men in Black: International as well as another new trailer for the Angry Birds movie sequel.
Gotham is finishing up their series with new appearances from traditional versions of the Penguin, the Riddler and Batman! Stranger Things 3 will be coming soon in the summer, probably June, and it is believed to be as amazing as the other two seasons.

I know there is many more TV shows and movies coming out or building up a fanbase, but I’m not very well-knowledged on them so I’ll only tell you about the good stuff I’ve heard and seen. Avengers: Endgame and Godzilla: King of the Monsters are the most hyped movies of the year, in my opinion, since we will be seeing major changes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and we will be seeing classic Godzilla monsters return to the big screen. That will be it for this article, until next time, more goodness to come.
