Redwood High School has so many students with so many talents and among them is Kylen Gray-Jacobson, who left a memorable impression on other aspiring musicians on campus.

Kylen Gray-Jacobson shows his guitar skills in “Miss You” music video. Makaylin Batti ’22 filmed this scene in front of the Fox theater.

Most recently, Gray-Jacobson’s music video “Miss You”, was an award recipient at the Slick Rock Film Festival.

Gray says, “The idea behind the video was blurry at first; Mr. Henshaw and I made some general suggestions to build upon what we wanted to incorporate in the video.”

Every music video has a background to it. There is always a reason and Gray adds, “As we filmed, we would focus the performance around a girl and her as a “phantom-ish” figure, it was difficult to portray that, but we did what we could with the mirror and the mood lighting”.

“I also just wanted to show my expressions on how I wanted my song to be delivered.” Grey-Jacobson says.

Grey adds, “The meaning mainly revolves around the general feeling of wanting to be around someone you adore, but can’t, so all you can do is miss them, because you can’t necessarily ‘love them’ the only replacement for that phrase is I ‘miss you’.”

Kylen was not the only person who worked on this project. “Nikko Gutierrez and William Youngquist both were cameramen and my friends Aidan Hatch, Jackson Ford, and Makaylin Batti were also involved with photography and assisting with filming tasks.” Gray says.

Nikko Gutierrez ’23 says, “I did help edit the video. The process took a few weeks due to three separate people having input on the same cut of the video. Although it was hard at times due to clashing ideas, it all came together in the end and gave us a great final product.”

Everyone had so much input on the videos and in the end, everyone loved it.

Campbell Crites who was the featured dancer in the “Miss You” music video puts on a breathtaking performance captured by William Youngquist ’23.

Gutierrez ‘23 adds, “Our biggest challenge was finding different shoot locations. We were at multiple houses using pools for shoots, we were at Dancer’s Edge at one point shooting all the dance sequences, and a few other locations. Getting all the equipment and people to these locations and finding all the locations to get the shots.”

Everyone did their best and in the end, they won the award from Slick Rock Student Film Festival.
