Redwood’s own Orchestra will be doing their annual Holiday Concert on December 10th, at 7:00 pm, in the El Diamante Theater.  The whole orchestra will be able to show off their skills and spread some Christmas cheer.  Everybody in the class is working extremely hard to be ready for the concert.  Tickets are $5 per adult, $3 per student, $3 per Senior Citizen, and tickets for all kids (12 and under) are free.

Mr. Yokota, the orchestra conductor here at Redwood, commented that, “We do a lot of holiday music and the students dress all up in ugly Christmas sweaters.”  Crowds of people will be able to listen to songs like “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, “A Suite of Carols”, “Jingle Bells”, songs from The Nutcracker Ballet, and much more.

Orchestra practicing in class

To make sure they are ready for the annual event, every person in orchestra has to practice.  Jace Jasso, ‘19, said, “I’m concertmaster, I’m the leader of my section”, and practicing his violin is in his usual daily schedule.  Erika Nguyen, ‘20, as well as other students said she “takes her instruments home to practice and even have private lessons with the teacher.”  To get even more experience, 17 students from chamber orchestra have made it into state honor orchestra called T.K.M.E.A. and C.O.D.A., which they attended last Saturday, December 1st, 2018.

Samantha Thomas, ‘21, said that, “Orchestra is a good hobby, it trains you to focus… Mr. Yokota strives to make us better and he opens up a lot of opportunities for us.” Daniela Andes, ‘22, agreed with Thomas and also said, “Orchestra’s really fun, I will totally do it next year.” With all of the potential Mr. Yokota said this year’s group of students have this year, it was said that it should be a great concert.
