Dance Force Dancers express their views on the commitment to Dance Force and Dance outside of school. With an intense schedule for Dance Force and the intense schedule for the Dance Studios in Visalia, finding time to do both can be a struggle. With the long school day full of schoolwork and homework, dancers explain how dance fits in between.

Dancing is a very involved sport. Kyleah Fierro, 29′ said that she tries “planning on the schedule.” It seems that in most cases, planning and communication are the best way to be able to balance both Dance Force and Dance outside of school.

As said before, most of the dancers spoken to said that planning helps them to figure out when and what they can and can’t miss. Ava Reynolds, 27′ said, “I always make sure to check the Band calendar because it will always be updating me with events for both my studio and school dance team.”

Having a plan to follow is an amazing way to stay organized and on track with what’s going on. Not only do they plan in their dance lives, but they also plan in their schoolwork. As we all know, high school is full of homework. Now try to balance homework with long hours in school and outside of school dance.

Kyleah Fierro, 29′ said, “I try to plan it out to see when I’ll have time in my schedule for homework.”

What happens when you don’t finish all your work in class or before Dance? Most Dancers end up just staying late and finishing after all of the craziness.

Ava Reynolds, 27′ said, “If I do have Homework after Dance, I am usually doing it while I’m eating dinner.” Most days, dancers don’t have enough time to fit everything in. So they made their own way to finish things, whether it be in class or over dinner.

With the long hours and the many routines, is it even possible to remember everything and keep up and be prepared with the long hours? Scarlett Flores, 30′ said, “I make sure I practice both my Dance Force dances and my studio dances to make sure I am prepared for both practices.”

Having a plan and being prepared are ways all dancers can function. But as I said, that’s only one of the ways.

The best way to balance both Dance and Dance Force is teacher communication.

Tysie Tisthammer, 27′ said, “I make sure to communicate with both my teachers and instructors so that if I do have to miss, it will be fine.”

Being able to communicate with your teachers ahead of time is crucial in the dance world. Some teachers are really strict, and some could be totally fine if you communicate. Communication is the best way to be able to have a good idea of what is going on.

Scarlett Flores, 30′ said, “I talk to both teachers and make sure that I am doing whatever they want me to do.”

Having communication with both your teachers can help you figure out what they would like you to attend and what they think is best for you to participate in. Communication doesn’t just include asking what your teachers think you should and shouldn’t participate in, but also what you will be missing and what you will be late for.

Tysie Tisthammer, 27′ said, “I communicate with both teachers to make sure they know if I am going to be missing or late to anything.”

Dance overall is a very involved and demanding sport, but with some planning and communication, you can definitely and totally balance both Dance Force and dancing for a studio.
