When these rare days come around everyone has something to look forward to, but no one is really aware of what’s being sacrificed. Coming into school with late start already cuts our day shorter to begin with and leaving at 1:53 defeats the purpose of coming to school at all.
Some students have parents whose schedules do not match well with this very short day. If their hours don’t match up with their student’s schedule the student is left to find a way to get home and some are not capable of doing so. Transportation is always a rough situation to deal with and it stresses out students who have to handle everything. Some have to wait around in the library for a long time until their unexpected rides get to school. Others are expected to ask others they may not feel comfortable with for a ride or even walk home.
Students who take on multiple AP classes now have to take on all of them with a very limited amount of time. They are not given enough time during the day to pack on all of their hard classes in such a limited amount of time. Having these short days can put AP classes behind in their lessons and leave the students packed with more work on their plates.
Most people have no motivation to come to school at all and very few come attend class. Some walk into class and see little to no people at all. It’s understandable for someone to take this late start minimum day as another day off since there’s practically no point. Some may look at this day as a time to catch up but in reality most won’t use this day to their advantage and make it a day to do everything last minute. Some people look forward to these days while others dread it. A better alternative would be cancelling class overall and it could save a lot of issues.
Great article!!! Unfortunately, I have to go to school on these days:(
