On Wednesday, August 24, the City of Visalia started the FY 22-23 Reclaimite Project within the city’s northeast quadrant.

The northeast quadrant is defined by using Mooney Boulevard and Highway 198 as the X & Y axis of a graph.

There are multiple schools affected by the project. The City is working with the contractor, Talley Oil, on detailed schedules to minimize the impact on the schools affected.

Casey Chu works within the City’s engineering division as an Assistant Engineer.

According to Chu, the schools affected by the project are the following:

  • Redwood High School
  • Golden West High School
  • Global Learning Charter School
  • Crowley Elementary School
  • Four Creeks Elementary School

Maintenance is scheduled nearby Redwood High School on Giddings Street from Main Street to Murray Ave on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

What is the Reclaimite Project?

The Reclamite Project is an annual street maintenance project performed to increase the durability and delay the aging process of the City’s roadways.

Reclamite is a tested and proven pavement preservation technique to cost-effectively prolong the lifespan of the City’s roadways.

Additionally, reclamite is a quick, one-day operation that minimizes impacts on residents, businesses, schools, and other entities.

Chu says, “Thanks to Measure N Voters and Landscaping & Lighting Districts, we are able to perform this necessary street maintenance which will improve the durability of the asphalt and delay the aging process, ultimately getting more life out of our roads.”

The City advises residents to:

  • Keep pets and children off the street during application to prevent oil from being tracked into the home. Check shoes and pet’s feet for residue after application to protect floors.
  • If you track residue into your driveway or garage, it can be washed off with dish soap and water, or it will wear off in two to six weeks.
  • Drive slow (10 mph) to prevent pickup. Residue on vehicles can be removed by immediately washing with dish soap and water.
