During quarantine in 2020, Galvan started her business “Sweet Sweet Bakery.” She says “[she] was bored and baking has always been one of [her] passions, so [she] just made it a business.”

Small businesses associated with baking generally begin from starting in the owner’s home. “[She] started just making them for [her] family and friends for their birthdays and stuff like that,” explains Galvan.

Baking in a home comes with responsibilities and challenges. To become successful those same challenges need to be overcome.

Galvan mentions that, “[she’s] not the best at cleaning as well as time management.” Galvan adds, “[she’s] gotten better at managing [her] time so [she] can do orders when they are needed.”

Owning a small business sometimes creates stress for the owners.

“It’s sometimes overwhelming especially during the holidays when things are more popular. It definitely does get a little tough but, I just know if I try my hardest and do my best I can do it” says Galvan.

Extracurricular activities add to the stress and work pile, but Galvan decided that “[she] didn’t sign up for anything this year because [she] knew [her] business was at its peak right now, so of course school is always first but after homework, [she] just bake[s].”

Starting a business comes with the happiness of being able to experiment with your own products.

“My favorite part is trying out new recipes and seeing how they come out. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t work and I just kind of have to figure them out.”

Dominic McCelland ‘25 was one Galvan’s customers.

Supporting a small business bonds the communities that the owners are in. “It is one of the only cookie businesses at school and [he] wanted to help support [his] friend,” says McCelland.

Hailey Tanck ‘25 bought cookies from Galvan. She says, “at first [she] was buying from her as a friend, but once [she] had the first cookie, [she] had to buy more.”

McCelland says, “the quality was really good, you also get 2 medium sized cookies for 2 dollars.” Galvan’s time and effort put into the products, resulted in satisfied customers.

Tanck adds, “the cookies didn’t just taste good they looked good!”

Galvan makes her treat boxes for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and whenever someone wants something sweet.
