In the weeks leading up to this year’s Cowhide, ASB and students are working hand-in-hand on making sure that this year, the dress-up days will be one to remember.

This year, ASB sent out a Google Form that allowed Redwood students to vote for, and submit their own ideas for the Cowhide dress-up days.

Mrs. Aston, the ASB teacher, believes that asking for students’ opinions on what dress-up days should be is beneficial towards making the most out of these days.

Aston says, “the students are the ones who are dressing up and who create that spirit on campus, so if we don’t ask them their opinion, then why would they want to dress up?”

By gathering students’ opinions on the dress-up days that they are participating in, Aston hopes it will result in a large amount of student body dressed up.

Peyton Sa, ‘23, comments on this year’s Cowhide dress-up days: “I am excited to see everyone celebrating, and joining up to unify as a school after not being able to for so long.”

Cowhide is well-known for creating a space that unifies Redwood and bringing the school spirit to all-time highs.

Sa is enthusiastic about dressing up for spirit days at Redwood, her favorites including “cowboys vs. aliens” and “when we had the decades dress-up day two years ago [2019].”

ASB found that when high schoolers are given creative freedom, it is bound to get some funny responses.

Aston says, “we got so many responses so you’re bound to have a few that wind up real crazy! Mr. Worldwide day, AKA Pitbull day stands out as a real creative response that we got.”

She continues, “sometimes dress-up days get recycled, and we tend to do the same ones over and over again…” but every once in a while, “you always get ones that you don’t think of.”
