Was the sport implemented into his childhood?
“It was kind of a unique situation for me, because I think a lot of children are influenced a lot by their parents, so what they like is what they get into, and my father was not interested in sports at all, but for some reason, I was always drawn to sports.”
“Especially baseball. So I actually started playing a little bit later I was ten years old. I started playing but I fell in love with the game immediately and I’ve loved it ever since,” said Coach Hydash.
Why did baseball interest Coach Hydash?
“I just like to compete, that’s why I coach till this day. I like the competition, I like the training aspect of it, I like teaching the game, just everything about baseball. Baseball is a very complex game, and it’s a tough game, and a lot people may think it might be boring, but those are the people that just don’t know all of the details that are associated with it. So it is a great game.”
How did his high school career go?
“I had a good high school career. [The] best thing about high school is playing with your buddies, and just being able to compete with them and you get to go to school with them all day and compete and go to big games. I played football and baseball in high school and some of the rivalry games are probably some of my best memories.”

Did you know coach Hydash was a pitcher at COS?
“Yes, I was a pitcher at COS and I had some arm injuries so I didn’t go as far as I would have liked to, but it was a great avenue into my coaching career so I wouldn’t really change anything.”
What convinced Hydash to coach in the first place?
“If you would have asked me in high school or even when I was playing at COS if I ever wanted to coach, I probably would have told you no, but like I said my pitching career ended a little bit sooner than I was wanting to and I wanted a way to stay in the game. I always like working with young people and mentoring and being able to support youth so I kind off got into it and 26 years later here we are, so I still love it.”
Coach Hydash in in his 11th season as head coach of the Rangers starting in 2014. Coach Hydash has amassed over 200 wins during his tenure.

“How have I done? Well, I don’t take all the credit for it by any means, but we’ve had a lot of success since I’ve been here. I think we’ve kind of put Redwood baseball on the map.”
“We’ve been fortunate enough to win a couple section titles, numerous league championships, and I think we’ve really built that culture and reputation here as the best baseball program in Tulare county year in and year out,” says Coach Hydash.
Coach Hydash had more to say.
“You know what, getting the Redwood coaching job here after several years coaching schools. This is the best place to be and I wouldn’t change any of my experiences here at Redwood for anything I’ve met a lot of great staff, students and athletes and it’s just been a great ride and hopefully we’re going to do it for a few more years and see what we can do.”
