Starting wide receiver, Brain Brown ‘20, began his senior year with a powerful comeback into football. Totaling over 45 yards per game and having four touchdowns in the last seven games, the player has become a force that should not be reckoned with.

In week 7 against competing school, Golden West, Brown displayed his absolute dominance on the field by catching a 56-yard pass and then proceeding to carry a defender on his back as he ran another 20 yards. He finished the game with three catches consisting of over 80 yards.

Brown continues to improve and excel on the field. Although the prospering athlete shines among his teammates, his success did not come easy.

In the third grade, Brown began football in the Fresno Knights Youth League following in the footsteps of his older brothers. To put it simply, the now outstanding athlete says he “wasn’t very good” when he first started playing; yet even at a young age, Brown was dedicated to improving his skills in hopes of continuing his brothers’ legacy. From late night practices to early morning workouts, Brown built up his career. It was through his focus and work ethic that Brown was able to become the player he is today.

After a serious back injury during his freshman year, Brown was forced to put his career in football on hold. He felt as though he had lost a piece of himself, making it harder to set his personal goals. Brown admitted that he went to school for sports and losing that forced him to refocus on his health and personal growth as well as schoolwork.

It was during this time that Brown was able to establish his name in both Redwood’s Varsity Track and Varsity Basketball team; confirming that not only is Brown an outstanding football player, but that he is an all-round phenomenal athlete. Once he was reemerged into football, Brown felt “amazing,” like he “had rediscovered [his] purpose.”

Coach Sharton believes Brown “is an all around team player” who has “great character, work ethic.” Brown is considered to be a team leader who is able to uplift and motivate his teammates in times of need. His explosive momentum drives him up and down the field, allowing him to total well over 200 yards just within the last 7 games.

Although Brown gets it done on the field, his work in the classroom makes him a well-rounded student as well as a remarkable athlete. As the football season progresses, Brown continues to persevere against all odds.

Brian Brown is quite the exceptional player, and there is no doubt that he will continue to live up to his jersey number of being number 1.
