The start of the new Intro to Dance class of ’25-’26, where everyone makes mistakes even if you think you are starting off at a good point.
“Students expect this class to only be dancing but don’t realize it’s still a class and work assignments come with it briefly about the background and history of dance” says Mrs. Bardonnex, Redwood’s dance teacher.
Many students don’t have an interest in dance but take it so they won’t have to take a class that they don’t like at all.
“I only joined Intro to Dance because I didn’t want to take PE but so far its going fun,” says Kaytlynn Dodson, ’28.
On the other hand, Cathy Jaurrieta, ’28, was influenced by someone at a higher level in dance. “I was influenced by my friend Aliyah Perez to give dance a try even though I was very unsure but look at where I am very happy I joined” she says.
Intro to Dance participates in the Dance show Redwood has every year. They start practicing and coming up with the dance they perform, but students must keep up their grades to be in the show.
Jaurrieta says she is going to maintain her grade to be in the dance show, “I saw how the dance show performs so I really hope to make it to the dance show.”
“Intro to Dance has started off to a very good start compared to intro to dance 2 school years ago makes me very excited for what has to come for this years intro to dance and their future dance show awaiting in April,” says Mrs. Lisa Bardonnex.
Confidence in a first level class can be very high, or the opposite, very low especially with people who are experts and others who are fresh at it.
Jaurrieta says, “While dancing and seeing intermediate my confidence is at a 7.5”
Intro to dance is a very fun and learning along the way pathway where if you make mistakes there is no need to be embarrassed, but just to have confidence and know you can easily perfect your skills along the way.
“Everybody is unperfect in their own way,” says Jaurrieta.
