Lillie Wasem, ‘23, is the number two on Redwood’s varsity women’s golf team. Wasem has been playing golf since she was eight years old, but started taking it seriously her freshman year.
Wasem says, “I’m excited to start fresh and play a more consistent season. We have a couple new people and I think having them is going to be great for our team.”
Wasem says, “90% of golf is mental, and you’re always in your own head. You have to be so concentrated on the swing.” She explains how golf is very different from any other sport because every swing that she takes requires lots of concentration and thought.
Wasem is the captain of the team, as a junior, which is a really big accomplishment. She goes on to say, “I never thought I would be in this position, which is crazy.”
The varsity head coach, Lonnie DeAsis, says it’s a well earned team captain position, considering how incredible Wasem is. Being top of a varsity team is a big responsibility, and from what DeAsis says, she is doing very well. DeAsis states, “She is the captain of the team, and has incredible work ethics.”
DeAsis says that although their team is young, “Lillie is doing a great job bringing the team to the next level.” Wasem is a natural leader, and her coach can’t help but agree. She is a valuable member of the women’s golf team, and is definitely an incredible athlete.
