The Spring play, “Once Upon A Mattress” will take place this Thursday-Saturday in the LJ Williams Theater. $10 fee for students and $12 for general admission. One of the stars, Solomon Stahl, ’20, received the male lead part, the prince dauntless, the drab. His job is to play the protagonist and a shy and socially awkward heir to the throne.

Stahl says “The role I originally wanted was the role of sir Harry, mainly because I personally liked the songs his character had, but I still really love my part!” Stahl and the rest of the crew have worked day and night to ace their parts, “I prepared for my lines and songs everyday, and then when callbacks came, I had to do the same with a small amount of time and a way bigger list of things to familiarize with.” He also says, “After callbacks, my friends told me that I had a good chance of getting the lead role, which I totally denied because I had never had a big role in a production before this.” Solomon was “excited and overwhelmed” when he got the lead.

“I’m honored to take on this responsibility.”

Before moving into the theater, rehearsals were pretty standard. They practice three hours three days a week. One day is for blocking (acting), one is for choreography (dancing), and one for singing. “Now that we are in the theater, we’re on a much tighter schedule, going from four to nine every weekday until opening night, and all day on Saturday.” He is super excited for the 21st-23rd. The cast, crew, orchestra, directors, and everyone else has been working their butts off. “You guys should totally come see it.”

Overall, everyone that was involved in the play has worked very hard to make it as close to perfect as possible for an audience like you to watch! Come support Solomon and the rest of the crew this Friday at 7 pm!
