A Senior Spotlight featuring Kylie Schieferle, the President of CSF and a student of many unseen and unnoticed talents.

Kylie Schieferle is a four year student of many subjects; Drama, Musicals, Choir, and CSF (She’s the President!) to list a few. However, Schieferle hasn’t received a moment of recognition on the Gigantea, and to rectify this atrocity, here’s her Senior Spotlight.

Schieferle plans to go to the California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), and she plans to major in material engineering.

Schieferle “love[s] music,” “is a night owl,” “is kinda a gym rat,” and “love[s] traveling to the breach.” She “plays guitar” and “has jam sessions” with her close family. She “works at Rawhide,” and says that “I love spending time with people.”

She says, “I’m always looking for new ways to be a better person.”

When asked to expand, she continued. “If I can give back just one hour of my time to other people, whether they know that I’m the person helping them or not, if I can make a person’s life better for only a minute or two, I think that’s the best way I can spend my time.”

Schieferle often goes out of her way to help others, and her humility is almost palpable.

Stacy Galvan, Redwood’s Drama Director, personally recommended a spotlight on Schieferle. She says, “Kylie’s an amazing leader. She’s kind-hearted, and there’s not a malicious bone in her body.”

Galvan has had Schieferle around since before she hit high school, as Schieferle “started doing musicals when she was young.” Continuing, Galvan says, “When something needs to be done, I turn to Kylie. She does anything and everything asked of her, [and] handles it with grace.”

“Kylie lights up a room when she walks in. You could be having an awful day, where everything is going wrong, and Kylie will find the silver lining. And she will remind everyone of that silver lining,” Galvan says.

Galvan says, “Kylie wants to perform more than anyone else, and when she gets up on stage, she owns it. But it takes her work. You can see her perform and think, ‘Oh my God, Kylie’s great!’ But I see the thought process, [and] when she’s not on stage is when Kylie shines.”

Galvan continued, “She puts the work in [her] characters, but she also puts the work in behind the scenes to make sure everyone will perform as best they can.”

When asked about Schieferle’s experience in theater, Galvan says, “Kylie has had leads, but they’re not the ‘final bow’ leads. The parts that she gets, without her playing those parts, the show doesn’t work. Kylie will take a small part and she will own it, and she will make the rest of the show amazing.”

Galvan finished, “[Her ability to] take whatever part she [does] get and put everything she can into it will make her successful in every single thing that she does.”

Cole Schieferle, the AP-Government and Economics Teacher, is both Kylie Schieferle’s father and teacher. In this complicated role, Mr. Schieferle says, “As a student, she is great to have in class. As a person, she is fantastic. She knows how to treat people well, she works hard at what she does, and she takes joy in helping others. As a parent, I’m extremely proud of her.”

Mr. Schieferle noted that Schieferle’s humor was one of his favorite traits about her. “She has a great sense of humor.”

When asked about Schieferle’s evolution as time has passed, her father says, “She’s had a lot of things that she has tried and not been successful in, and that’s one of the reasons why I think she’s not afraid to try new things.”

Mr. Schieferle made it clear that if Schieferle wants something, she’s more than willing to work for it, a trait that Mr. Schieferle finds admirable.

Ashlyn West, ‘23 has known Schieferle since seventh grade, and they “first became friends when rehearsing for the musical, Mary Poppins.” West says that Schieferle is “really caring and selfless,” adding that “she’s really sweet, and no matter what you’re going through, she’ll be there for you.”

West added, “Kylie’s a massive goofball. I’m lucky to be able to see the goofball side of her and her school side. I’m very proud of her, [and] I find her very admirable.”

Kasper Gailey, ‘23, is Schieferle’s peer and boyfriend. When asked about his favorite of Schieferle’s traits says, “I like her personality. She’s very funny, and really outgoing.” When asked about Schieferle’s evolution, Gailey says, “She’s always been very consistent. She’s always doing the stuff she’d like to do.”

Gailey finished by adding, “Her frizzy hair [is] always amazing.”

Atraya Serrato, ‘23 has, like West, known Schieferle since seventh grade. Serrato says, “Everything about her is her perfect trait.” When asked about Schieferle’s evolution, she adds, “She’s become more vocal. [In the past], it has looked like she wanted to say something, but then she wouldn’t say it. Now, she takes charge more. She’s learned how to grow into her voice.”

Serrato finished by saying, “Kylie Schieferle is the most amazing person in the whole wide world.”
