Redwood High School Student-Athlete keeps up a thriving baked goods business and shares how she got started.

Brooklyn Tayo ‘25 is a multi-sport athlete at Redwood High School. Tayo plays tennis, basketball, and softball while still managing to maintain a 4.0 GPA. For Brooklyn, the hustle never ends. That hustle includes Tayo being the owner of “Busy Bee By B”

What started off as scrolling through a variety of eye-catching recipes on Instagram Reels, turned into the realization that her inner baker was waiting to be set free.

“I’ve always loved baking and people would tell me that they would pay good money for it. So not only am I doing what I love, I get to share it with other people too”, says Tayo.

Tayo’s signature Rice Krispie treats

Running a business isn’t as easy as some may think. It’s especially difficult when your academic and sports schedules are already booked. However, passion is a strong motivator. Tayo proves that having a loaded schedule isn’t an excuse. If you really want something you’ll find a way to make it fit in amongst the chaos, and Tayo does just that.

Tayo’s “Lemon-filled cakes”

“My New Year’s resolution was to have better time management. So in all of my classes, I get all of my work done. After school, I have my practices. Then after all my homework is completed I head right into work to complete my orders”, says Tayo.

Tayo has a variety of goodies available on her page. Some of the delectable items on the menu are Fruity Pebble treats, Rice Krispie treats, Oreo cheesecake cookies, and cookie cakes that come in many different flavors ensuring that it will be a struggle to choose just one.

Any item off the menu will leave the customers satisfied and likely to return. Although there are many popular items, the treats that are in constant order are some classic favorites.

Tayo’s little helpers

“The lemon-filled cake, I think it’s the filling that gets people hooked. As well as the smores cookie- that is a go to”, says Tayo.

While Tayo can do it all, she doesn’t stop short of acknowledging some key contributors to her business. It’s always nice to have a set of helping hands in any task. The business of baked goods is no exception.

“My nieces are a big part of my business. They’re in charge of putting the stickers on the packaging and helping in any way that they can. It makes the process even more fun by just having them around”, notes Tayo.
