After taking third in regionals, Redwood’s Science Olympiad team took on the State competition. On Saturday April 6, students of the team headed to Turlock where they participated in various different events.”The events offered in Science Olympiad cover a pretty broad spectrum of social, space, chemistry, engineering, and inquiry related events,” says the team presidents Aya Aziz, ’21.
From Redwood there was all officers except two, four other sophomores and three freshman attending state. The officer team consists of Aya Aziz as president, Katherine Tejada and Alisha Shahroz as vice presidents, Grace Arnold as secretary, Abigail Leonard as treasurer, and Jessica Abarca as public of relations officer.
Redwood placed in the top 20 in astronomy, designer genes, mission possible and write it do it. The members of the team who accomplished this were Aya Aziz, Katherine Tejada, Maria-Jacqueline Canchola, Grace Arnold, Jessica Abarca, and Alisha Shahroz.
Aziz comments that “I think I speak for the whole team when I say that going into it we were all looking forward to the learning experience and chance to refine our skills and prepare for next year. States is a great way to meet new people and bond with your friends.” She also comments that “Attending states is a great experience that I feel more people should be aware of and willing to participate in. It has always been the highlight and an honor of my Science Olympiad career to go to states each year.”
