Last week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, all the dance classes performed in the LJ Williams Theater, in front of an audience made up of Redwood staff, students, and family members. Six dance classes performed for a total of two and a half hours, each class performing a unique style of dance.
The show’s theme this year was “Halftime Super Bowl Show”, meaning a lot of the music genres and outfits were football themed. They even threw small foam footballs into the crowd at the beginning of the show to excite the viewers and give them some fun keepsakes.
Despite the dance groups preparing all year, this was the only show where all of the groups came together and performed, making it a show to remember.
The show was very exciting, but also emotional and thoughtful, featuring groups that performed loud and flashy hip-hop dances, as well as groups performing slower, more theatrical songs.
While the dances were all entertaining visually, some of them had deeper meanings, whether they came from the music, or the choreography and props. The most noticeable of these were seen in the solos performed by Tegan Horton, ’23, Bryann Block, ’23, and Madison Andrade, ’23, who are 4-year Dance Force members.
Despite the concentration and memorization required to perform, all of the dance groups looked excited and happy to perform. Overall, the show was amazing, and fun to watch for all people, not just those with a connection to the dancers.
Any students that want to join a dance class in the upcoming school year can talk to their counselor. There are dance classes available for everyone at Redwood, whether or not they have any prior dance experience.
