Varsity Football player Ronnie Walsh ’24 discusses his football career and his excitement for his first and final Cowhide

Ronnie Walsh, ’24, has been playing football throughout his whole life. However he didn’t start playing for Redwood until his junior year.

Walsh is not just a first year varsity member, he also gets to play two positions for the team, cornerback and wide receiver.

With Cowhide coming up anticipation is high within Seniors. Walsh says, “I’m very excited. Football is such a big part of my life and playing in a big game like this is going to be memorable. It´s going to be something I remember for the rest of my life.”

This Cowhide will be very special for Walsh considering it is his first, and last time playing. Walsh says, “Since this is my first Cowhide I haven’t had much experience. I’m super excited to play and play for my teammates.”

Being surrounded by football all his life pushed Walsh to pursue a career in it. Walsh says, “Watching football with my dad and playing with my brother inspired me to start playing football. Even playing flag football when I was younger inspired me.”

Walsh says, “This Cowhide´s gonna be a good game. Mt. Whitney’s team is also good. I’m excited to go out there and help my teammates and keep the hide home.

Walsh reveals playing football is a big part of his day to day life. Walsh says, “It impacts my day everyday because I get to be with my teammates. It also improves my social skills and I get to meet new people. It definitely improves my psychical abilities and mental abilities as well. Overall football makes me more disciplined.”

A very memorable moment for Walsh in his football career was at this year’s Porterville vs. Redwood game. Walsh says, “It was my first start at corner. I got a pick. That was really meaningful to me because I was still very nervous about playing that position and I prayed about it. Playing that new position then doing really good and excelling at it was really good for me.”

Walsh reveals in order to keep his head in the game he needs prayer. Walsh says, “I like to pray before my games. Just recognizing that strength Jesus gives me helps me to play. Music also really helps me to get locked in.”

Walsh says, “I’m a man of faith. My role model is Jesus Christ. I try to live for him in everything I do.”
