West Coast Elite competition was postponed due to fires surrounding the area in Castaic.
The competition was supposed to be held last weekend but was postponed to this weekend, February 1, 2025.
With Dance Force unexpectedly getting another week to practice for the competition was honestly a big help due to some girls being sick and they were finally able to come back and catch up.
Captain Marileigh Coon, ‘25, says, “It was honestly for the best because Castaic was on fire and it’s for the best that they prioritized people’s safety over a competition which is good.”
Ava Reynolds, ‘27, adds, “I do think this week, although postponed for bad reasons, helped us due to lots of girls not feeling well last week. But they have been recovering and have come to practice again, which is a big help for everyone.”
Although the fires did help the Dance Force girls practice and feel more prepared it is a horrible tragedy for Castaic.
With not just homes but also businesses, schools, and anything in the fire’s way being burned down, Dance Force can only hope things become better and safer for those being affected.
Although the West Coast Elite competition was postponed it is always best to remember that safety comes first and it was done for the right reasons. All in the hope of having a better, safer, and just happier environment for the day of.
Coon says, “I really hope these fires don’t interfere anymore with how many homes it’s taken. We can only hope it doesn’t do any more damage.”
