Redwood welcomes new students across the San Joaquin Valley for the year of 2023. As a redwood student who works for the Redwood school newspaper, I had the opportunity to report on my half-sister’s perspective on her first year back on campus. Isabella Mulliniks [25’] starts her first year back on a physical campus after attending Visalia Charter Independent Study (VCIS).
Independent Study has become a popular alternative in not having to attend on campus, but not a lot of people choose to return after their sophomore year. I knew Isabella around the year of 2020, she often asked what Redwood was like since she originally grew up in Porterville attending Granite Hills High School.
I would tell her about classic Redwood traditions like cowhide, pep-rallies, and more.
“I honestly was just thinking about coming back on campus because Independent study got kind of boring after a while,” says Isabella.
Students may attend on campus in order to participate in sports and extracurricular activities, attend events and get more hands-on experience in their chosen fields. Isabella actually intends on wanting to get through high school and make mutuals in order to become a social detective.
“I really tried to get into Redwood so I can meet new people and with such a big campus it’s really easy to find groups to hang out with and have things to always look forward to,” says Isabella.
From a former senior redwood student and sister, Welcome Isabella to Redwood High School!
