Redwood’s bathroom policy happens to be the most inconvenient problem for on-campus students. You’re in class waiting until the remainder of the period to ask the teacher to use the restroom. When you finally can, you’re automatically told “No”. So, you then plan on going during lunch, just to find out that most of the restrooms on campus are either in need of repair or locked.

Students of Redwood give their opinion on how we can possibly manage this problem or stand against it.

Redwood’s front office and admin have both decided that bathrooms should be of limited use for the rest of the school year and even more to come if it becomes too out of hand. But, do other campuses in Visalia United School District (VUSD) have the same problem? Or is Redwood possibly the only school that has a student mass problem?

Jose Ramirez, ’24 says, “Normally, I don’t use the restroom, but when I have to, most of the time I’m told ‘no’ like multiple times.”

Teachers personally have to be strict with the use of restrooms because a lot of students will take advantage of them like vandalism or a ditching stop.

Breseida Rodriguez, ’24 says, “It kind of sucks that most of the time when I walk into the restroom, I’m either told to walk out or questioned.”

Sadly, Redwood students as a whole are not to be trusted with the privilege to use the restroom for its increased size.

The whole student body which is 2,400+ as a whole can be hard to manage and the crackdown on some students that aren’t able to properly use the restroom so all admin must shut down certain privileges for safety.

Madi Lightfoot, ’24 says, “I understand that they closed more bathrooms to monitor the fights that happen inside, but I find it unfair for the people that actually need to use the restroom to have to walk further and wait in long lines and deal with having all these things happening in the restroom when it’s not their fault.”

Mila Bravo, ’24 says, “Even during lunch when most people need to use the restroom they are always locked, and the ones that aren’t are really small and full of people making it super crowded.”
