Swim season has begun and Redwood’s swim team has started spinning in high gear, getting ready for whatever the upcoming season throws at them. The Redwood Gigantea asked Coach Eric Fuller a few questions about his team’s upcoming season.

As no athlete can reach their full athletic potential without training, we asked Coach Fuller about what aspects of his practice plan he believed would be the most effective, “I believe that focusing on techniques is the most effective part of our swim program.”

There are a lot of aspects to swim, and getting the most out of every part is what makes a swimmer and a team fire on all cylinders. Fuller stated, “Trying to perfect the start, practicing a quick flip turn and diving through the wall at the finish of a race are all essential practice goals all season long.”

Redwood swim is now in Division One making their end goal, Valley that much harder to achieve. So every meet that involves other Clovis schools is very competitive because those are the schools they will see at the end of the season. Fuller said, “We don’t get intimidated, but we do know that the Clovis high schools have year-round swimmers who will be really fast.”

At Redwood, a long-held tradition of competition between the other high schools in Visalia have always been upheld. Whilst that doesn’t mean the high schools can’t be competitive. Redwood always tries to hold the utmost amount of respect towards their adversary.

We asked Coach Fuller who would be the team to beat this season, “In the WYL Division, Golden West has always been a competitor of League Champions. Mt. Whitney has some good swimmers, but not the numbers.” With goals established and as the team to beat, Redwood swim does not plan on holding back this season and are very ambitious to achieve their goals.
