On Monday the 14th of October 2018, Redwood High school had their first Ranger assembly of the new year. The point of it was to recognize involved students who exemplify the characteristics of a TRUE Ranger in front of the entire student body. The assembly was split into two parts to be able to fit the school into the LJ Williams Theater. It took 40 minutes but included Dance Force performance and also a Hip Hop performance. Many students who were here last year noticed the big change in the assembly. We went and talked to Mr. Shin and Mr. Marroquin.

QUESTION:  What is your reasoning behind changing the assembly was last year?

ANSWER: “After getting input from staff, we do end of the year staff surveys, and some of the input from staff as they wanted to see the assemblies be taken more seriously by students that weren’t involved in these assemblies, they wanted to make it a little bit more special. We thought breaking it up into 2 assemblies in the LJ Williams would be a better venue for that and obviously, we have some kinks to work out still but I think it was a lot better assembly than the ones in the past because kids were a little more actively engaged.” -Shin

QUESTION: What are your hopes for the assembly and where is it going?

ANSWER: “I look to see more student involvement as far as the production of it, more teacher involvement as far as helping in reading the names or giving out the awards or having a role. We are going to do some videos in the future and I want to see the teachers participate in the that. We tried to do that last year in the gym and it wasn’t there yet, you couldn’t see it or hear it very well. I think the LJ Williams Theater will allow the video to be played with a good sound system to hear what the teacher is saying about the student. As this grows we just want to see a true awards assembly.” -Shin

QUESTION: What are your hopes for where the assembly is going?

ANSWER: “My hopes are to involve more kids, it’s for the students. So, I need to involve the various clubs, include more performances as far as drum-line and all the different types of performances. The more kids I can involve the better. I want it to be a show, not have it be so big that we lose sight of the purpose, the purpose is to recognize kids, but to have kids come sit down and enjoy the hour show.” – Mr. Marroquin
