In preparation for Redwoods Annual One Act Show, members in Drama and Theater have dedicated the past 12 weeks into practicing for this show which is taking place in the Rotary theater on May 26, 27, and 28.
Seeing that The One Acts is an annual performance at the end of year for Redwood, Senior and TA for drama 1 classes, Katelyn Perez, said that since “covid got in the way of the performance the past couple of years, we have given our show the title: ‘Third Time’s a Charm!’”
“We have had to start fresh, trying methods that are completely new to us. Instead of having upperclassmen to teach us, the juniors and seniors have had to start new and try the best we can” Perez says.
As for the extent of everyone’s ideas being put onstage, Kylie Schieferle ‘23 who has not had experienced being in One Act unti now, said, “I am so excited to help share the hard work all of the drama classes have put into this, for almost all the scripts, costuming, and stage management are done by students.”
Even though the majority of the members are new to not only The One Acts but performing in the rotary theater as well, Drama teacher and Theater Director Mrs. Galvan has considered this being “the biggest challenge,” that students will face during their performance.
However, on the other hand when the students are performing, Mrs. Galvan hopes that these students will learn from this experience and “everything there is to know about putting on a show in one act.”
Senior James Lucio ‘23, would like to add to the challenges in One Act which is “combining with the other drama classes,” but Lucio thinks that since his class “is mostly familiar with what [they’re] doing, it will be interesting to see what the other classes are up to.”
Other times go into the mutual effort and love that surrounds this show, “I know our One Act Show will be amazing, we have so many talented actors and a great student director team. We’re all super excited and grateful to show everyone the hard work we have put in over the past few months to make this show possible,” said Schieferle.
Mrs. Galvan adds, “Students just being onstage is a win.”
