Due to excessive heat, Redwood High School Athletics has delayed the start time of all football games this week.

All games will start one hour later. Freshmen will start at 6pm on September 1st. The JV and Varsity games on Friday, September 2nd will start at 6pm and 8pm.

Junior Varsity [JV] will play eight-minute quarters to ensure the Varsity [V] game starts on time.

In addition, the Varsity team is advised to “warm up” on the turf or the Sierra Vista campus.

If the JV game needs to be pushed back further, they will play as much as possible. However, the game will end by 8 pm with no exceptions.

According to the National Weather Service, Central Valley residents can expect “dangerously hot conditions” with temperatures of 102 to 112 degrees over the next few days.

The NWS warns that extreme heat will “significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses” particularly for those working and participating in outdoor activities.
