This year, the Ranger’s baseball team has a respectable 5-3 record after the first eight games of the season. During pre-season, the team was ranked number 21 in California according to PBR. Being ranked so high in the state was a blessing as well as a curse. Coming into the games, the Rangers would face their opponent’s ace who would silence their bats.
The first week of the season was a tough week for the Redwood offense. They started the week off with a win against Tulare Western after collecting only one hit. Then they faced Central two days later but lost. They were only able to get one hit in their attempt.
Their next opponent was Clovis High School, where the bats started to come alive after a long week of only acquiring two hits in two games, but they fell short losing 2-1, but they got six hits in that game. That was how the week finished for Redwood.
In the second week of the season, Redwood started their week off with a game against Clovis East in which they were able to win the game 3-2 after getting seven hits again, giving their pitchers some run support. The Rangers’ next game was against Liberty. They lost 7-2 after only getting five hits in that game.
To close off the second week of the season, Redwood traveled to Edison for a hot-day game. The heat didn’t affect the Rangers, and they won by the score of 8-7. They finished with 14 hits in the game.
To finish up Redwood’s pre-season, they faced Sunnyside and won in blowout fashion. They beat the Wildcats 22-0 getting 15 hits during that game. The Rangers are in a good spot right before league play. The batters are hot right now, as they get set to play their home l eague opener against Lemoore on Thursday.
