Athletes at Redwood are very unhappy about being unable to play sports so far this year. Due to Covid-19, California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) has suspended sports for the first semester. for this semester. This policy has been implemented in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
Because of the suspension, athletes have found different ways to cope with the lack of sports. Some have dedicated their time to getting better, in hopes that they will play during the second semester. Others have focused more on their studies.
Elizabeth Satorre, ‘22 is a 3 year swim and a 2 year water polo athlete. As a two sport athlete Satorre is unhappy about sports being postponed to a later date.
“I feel sad. I miss being in the pool and I was hoping to improve in some events in swim and…improve in general in water polo,” says Satorre.
Water polo is a fall sport meaning that it would normally be in session right now, but because of the suspension, it will not be in play until the spring season, unless there is word for a further suspension.
Satorre also says “I feel like quarantine is kind of a disadvantage because personally. I don’t have a pool, so I can’t train for my sports like how I would during the season.”
Hanbin Yu, ‘22, 3 year tennis player said, “I was really looking forward to playing this year, but it’s unfortunate that we cannot play [but when we return], “I plan on going to every conditioning and give my best effort to prepare for the season.”
The 2020-2021 year has been rough for all Redwood athletes, but they still are preparing for the season regardless. Hopefully this year our athletes will continue to have a season next semester.
