It is not every day that we get a match-up like the one we have tonight. Your very own (15-6) Redwood Rangers, who are currently on a four game winning streak,  will be taking on the undefeated (22-0) Mount Whitney Pioneers. This is easily the biggest match- up of the regular season.

The Rangers are coming off of an incredibly impressive 62-41 game against the El Diamante Miners; the team looked really sensational. They hope to continue that success in tonight’s match-up.

Guard, Frankie Alvarez, ‘23 believes his team is going to have to play with intensity like they did last Friday night. Alvarez says, “We need to bring the same intensity and focus to tomorrow’s game.”

Alvarez goes on to say that his team is going to need to make their shots, and not make mistakes in order for them to get the win tonight.

Tonight’s match- up should definitely be tougher than last Friday, but keeping the same intensity will be key. These boys are going to need to be locked in if they want to pull off the upset tonight against their undefeated rival.

Forward, Kolby Howard, ‘22 believes, “We’re pretty evenly matched. They have some strengths and weaknesses and so do we. It will be a good chess match.”

Howard continues by saying that fans should expect a very entertaining matchup tonight.

22 game winning streaks aren’t something you see often. The start to Whitney’s season has been incredible. Power Forward, Miguel Williams, ‘22 is ecstatic for tonight’s match- up, and he’s looking to end his opponents’ undefeated streak.

“We feel a ton of pressure coming in seeing how Whitney has performed. I’m excited to be on the team to kill their win streak.”

The reason the boys feel the pressure is because they have a really solid chance to beat the Pioneers. The Rangers have played four straight games that they’ve played incredibly well in. If anyone is going to beat the ultra-challenging Pioneers, it’s going to be these Rangers.

When looking at the number one thing Whitney does well, Ranger point guard, Nahir Karimi, ’22 believes their team chemistry is what sets them apart.

“The best thing they do is they play as a team along with their team chemistry. They all play together which makes them a tough team to beat, and they all know their roles.”
