Last year yielded a very saddening outcome for Ranger fans, as Mount. Whitney won last year’s Cowhide, by ONE POINT. Now, as both schools are gearing up for Cowhide, everyone wants to know just how they match up this year.

First off, we must look at the two teams’ records. Redwood is 4-5. Mt. Whitney is 5-4. So, unfortunately, that would mean that Whitney is going to win. Fortunately though, Redwood is 3-1 in the WYL. Whitney is 2-2 in the WYL. So… it’s basically an even split. But that is not the last part of the equation… Nope, there is still more that must be done. In my last article, I mentioned that Redwood scores, on average, 21 points, and that their defense allows 30 points per game. While all that may be fine and dandy, Whitney’s stats must be accounted for, as well.

First we must calculate Whitney’s offense. They score, on average, 42 points per game. Their defense, however, allows 27 points per game. So, if we take Redwood’s offense, against Whitney’s defense, the average would come to… 24 points. If we take Whitney’s offense against Redwood’s defense, the average would be… 36 points. So, unfortunately, if my calculations are correct, and they better not be, Whitney will win by the final score of 36-24.

Now it’s time to discover what some of our players think.

Q:What are you excited for, going in?

Julian Sanchez, ’20: I’m excited… that it’s my first Cowhide, along with my teammates, and what brings a lot of motivation is um… just the… campus just being decorated, and everyone’s just excited for Cowhide week, so it makes us really motivated to win that game.

Hudson Walker, ’20: I’m excited to… get a good pass rush… and just… have a lot of fun… play really hard.

La’Dre Aguilar, ’19: Just uh… playing!

Q: I’d say the odds are stacked against you. What do you have to say about that?

Sanchez: I mean, you never really know, it’s, it’s a city game, anything could really happen, just along with all the other city games um… so… you really just can’t sleep on any team for Cowhide, or any city game.

“I say the odds aren’t stacked against us because… we have a really good run game/pass game, and if we stop the QB we’ll do really well”

-Hudson Walker

Aguilar: Everybody who’s doubted us, we just wan’t you to go, we’re going to get this dub.

As you can see, the players are really excited for Cowhide, so go and see who wins! Admission is $4 for students and children, and $6 for Adults. See you there!!!
