Students in English classes here at Redwood High School are all in different stages reading different books.
Reagan King ‘25 says “we just finished reading A Midsummer Night’s dream.”
She continues by ¨I thought it was a good book, but it was confusing at times while reading.¨
King says “some of the words had different meanings then the words today and the book had a different writing style then books that i’m used to.”
Hannah Barrera ‘24 says “we were reading To Kill a Mockingbird, but we just recently finished.”
Barrera says “my favorite part of the book was either the middle or the end because we got to know more about what happened in the story rather than just stuck in the middle between what happened.”
Jeffrey Cathey ´22 he says ¨we are reading Shakespeare’s play Hamlet.¨
He says “it’s definitely a complex story, but I enjoy the different levels of complexity in it. Sometimes its easy to understand and sometimes I have to work with it.¨
Cathey ’22 continues by “Hamlet himself is conflicted about the death of his father, so he acts like he’s in total madness to cover it up. The character is complex through his emotions.”
Allyson Zamora ´22 who is an AP Lit student, says ¨right now were reading a book called Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.¨
¨ I like the deeper meaning and symbolism behind the plot and some of the characters” Zamora ’22 says.
Mrs. Tolbert, the AP Lang teacher here at Redwood says, “there’s several things the students are reading for AP Lang, right now we are doing what are called Literature circles and this is where the students get a choice of which novel they want to read. I had 4 different available choices of books for the students to choose from.”
Zamora ’22 adds “I like the deeper meaning of the novel because I can relate it to my own life, somewhat.”
