Ranger Cafe is gearing up for the first lunch of the year. Mrs. Garcia’s Ranger Cafe is a restaurant on campus open at lunch, and provides many options and gives teachers the option not to leave Redwood to eat else. She also has students working in her kitchen, offering them many opportunities for learning about culinary arts.
When asked about her opinion of Ranger Cafe, Mrs. Duerksen says that it’s great that the Cafe provides teachers with a normal lunch. She said that the Ranger Cafe provides real life on the job experience that helps students gain new skills
The success of the Cafe is due to the hard work of the students. Each and every one has an opportunity to prepare the meals served at the Ranger Cafe. Mrs. Garcia attests to this by saying, “I might manage them now, but as the year goes on I become more and more of an advisor.”
While the Ranger Cafe might be great, there is always room for improvement. Duerksen says, “Because Mrs. Garcia’s Cafe is more about the students, so it’s hard to say how it can be improved; although there’s always been a problem for teachers who need to get back to their 5th-period class.”
Mrs. Garcia is sure to drown out the classroom feel of her room and transform it into the restaurant it is. She says “We put up dividers all along the walls to create the atmosphere of a cafe, and not a classroom.”
But there’s always one main obstacle, the delivering part. Garcia says, “I know it’s especially hard for us to serve our teachers, with the 35 minute lunchtime to sit down, take your order and be served. Making it back in time is difficult, so delivering is a nice option for them.”
Most of their customers give positive feedback, Mrs. Garcia saying; “I think generally we get really good feedback from the teachers that come to our administration.”
This is the first of many luncheons to come more are soon to come next.
